Lo♥︎ing legal Existence: Recognising everyone – The Lawyer

Last week, systemic coach Zita Tulyahikayo and barrister and NLP Master Practitioner James Pereira QC remind us of the value of acknowledging everyone’s contribution to the businesses within which we operate.

Nature is a beautiful system. Balanced, flexible, generative and consistent, it never ceases to inspire wonder, far beyond anything that guy can offer in its place (as the ratings trouncing of X –Variable from Blue Earth II testifies). One characteristic of Nature that operates beautifully yet practically unnoticed is that the interdependency and all its parts, including the seemingly smaller players. Soil would remain sterile but for the continuous work of many micro-organisms that labor unseen beneath our feet.

None of us are immune against this inter-dependency. We couldn’t survive inside our own bodies with no countless micro-organisms that inhabit our gut; or the beautiful mitochondria within all of us who play cellular respiration, nevertheless keep their own, separate DNA: a excellent and mystical vestige of the ancient Aztec relationship far, far older than human type.

The businesses we work in are not anywhere near as amazing as Nature. But like Nature, they also rely on a contribution from everybody participated in the activity of the firm or the work of the group. Most folks when asked who the essential people are inside their firm or group, would likely single out the pioneer or many influential individuals first, if they make their judgment based on an internal discussion system (“Who is important to me personally?”) Or an outside one (“Who is important in the view of others?”) . They might also identify individuals who they are liable to get a professional capacity: trainees or junior partners, for example.

But what about the seemingly tiny gamers: the employees who organize that the refreshments and catering, the cleaners who ensure that your bin is empty and your reception is clean and neat in the morning, or so the administrative team that ensures your documents arrive in time or that your pay cheque reaches your accounts each month?

The folks responsible for these and related tasks are an essential component of the work system. An essential and essential part, nevertheless frequently unseen. Their diligence gives the others the space to do their own jobs without diversion — you simply consider what happens to a attention when the coffee maker or your photocopier stops working, or the sandwiches fail to arrive for your assembly. Their work can also be integral to the impression customers receive about your company: that the cleaners’ work is the very first thing on screen when anybody reaches the door of your office construction.

Most of all, they are a fundamental part of the work that goes into delivering the total experience that customers will enjoy — or perhaps not — and that will consequently produce lasting client relationships, a shining reputation, and a developing practice — or not. It is worth recalling that overall client experience is often a more powerful element in building business relationships that the caliber of the information or support provided — as Malcolm Gladwell points out in his excellent novel “Blink“, few individuals sue a physician they intuitively hope, even when informed that the physician has been negligent.

So look from the webpage or from your display, and consider and observe everything that’s been done and has been done to help your position inside your workplace. Your IT functions because someone makes it work. Your coffee is hot because someone providers and matches the machine. You can admire your reflection in the windows and mirrors on your office because someone cleans them for you. Much like you, people who provide a supportive role have demands, aspirations, interests and anxieties. Express your sincere thanks for their services. Take a real interest in their welfare. Discover how you or your firm can better support them. This is not just a better way to call home. It is also a better way to conduct a business enterprise.
